This place wouldn't even earn "half a star" on TRIVAGO!
Don't waste your money or time at Camp 28. What this place earns for "location" or "view", it LACKS for cleanliness, food quality, bar service, furnishings, TV service -you name it - THEY haven't got it! Bathroom floor was not clean nor was room floor vacuumed prior to our arrival. Shower curtain rod had chipped paint / coating on it. Beds were definitely hard as a rock. Pillows were "cardboard thin" and only two per queen bed so you couldn't even layer them. Doubled over, like sleeping on a rock. WiFi service went out on Saturday (check-in day), so we couldn't even pay our bill. Went to the event we were there for and came back to office to pay our room bill at about 9:30 pm to find it and the bar locked up for the night. WiFi was now "working" so we could pay the bill, however we were informed that we could not flush the toilets, were to use minimal water, and take no showers. WHY?- -Their sewage pump had broken down and they" couldn't find anyone to work on it over the weekend.
They have CABLE TV in the rooms = maybe 10 channels, but they have DISH network = multitude of channels in the "Saloon".
On top of all that, the FLIES in the "Saloon" were abundant, annoying, and HUNGRY!
Wonderful place. Owners down to earth and very friendly! Met them in the bar 5 years ago and didn't even realize it was them until much later
Holiday buffet could have been better... A little overpriced at $13.95 for it.
Obviously they don't have a cleaning person for the rooms, the shower was disgusting. I had 3 lamps burnt out and asked for new ones and never got any. The place is in a nice location and the people are super friendly. If they would pay attention to the details it would easily be a 4 star rating. However, I have stayed in cleaner places in way cheaper price.
Additionally, they were understaffed for a Saturday afternoon with a wedding or two in town and bowhunters in the area. Had to clean our own tables in the bar area. Nobody around to ask for a wet bar rag to wash the dried ketchup off the tables.
Always a pleasure to come to Camp 28. We are here every year for Ice Age days and sparatically throughout the year to visit our Grandma. We are from Chicago and it is a good get away. Love the new changes too.
